Lawyer attestation in Dubai

Lawyer attestation is the step where a notary public, or in some countries a lawyer, certifies a copy, witnesses a signature or confirms a declaration so the document can enter the attestation chain. Global Sky PRO is not a law firm: we prepare your documents, help you reach the right notary and handle the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) steps that follow.

Overview

What lawyer attestation means

The phrase is used loosely. Most of the time it means having a document certified by a legal professional before it moves on to government attestation: a copy certified as true, a signature witnessed, an affidavit sworn or a declaration confirmed. In many countries that professional is a notary public; in some, a solicitor or advocate may certify certain documents.

Here in the UAE, the equivalent step is notarisation. It is handled by notaries public, whether in the notary departments of the courts or as private notaries on the official roll, who check who you are and record what you signed or presented. A document going overseas then normally moves to MOFA; one coming in from abroad needs its home-country ministry, the UAE embassy and MOFA.

We are not lawyers and we don't give legal advice. We make sure your document is in a form a notary will accept, help you reach the right office and take care of the attestation steps around it.

Who it's for

Who needs it

  • 01

    People sending copies abroad

Some countries ask for copies of passports, degrees or certificates certified by a notary or lawyer before they will accept them.

  • 02

    Anyone making a sworn statement

Affidavits about a name change, a lost document or similar matters need a notary to confirm who made them.

  • 03

    Families and companies granting powers

Powers of attorney need notarisation before they can be used, and attestation if they cross borders.

  • 04

    Companies sending resolutions overseas

Board resolutions and corporate letters going abroad often need a notarised signature first.

Our part

What we do, and what we don't

Clear boundaries, so you know exactly what you're paying for and who decides each step.

Included

  • Working out whether your document needs a notary or lawyer step, and where
  • Typing affidavits, declarations and letters on your instructions, in Arabic and English
  • Preparing copies, identity documents and supporting papers for the notary
  • Helping you book a UAE notary appointment, in person or remote where available
  • Checklists for the notary and ministry steps in your home country
  • MOFA submission, follow-up and legal translation once the notary step is done

Not included

  • We are not a law firm and don't give legal advice or legal opinions
  • We don't notarise, certify or witness documents ourselves
  • We don't represent anyone in court; that is reserved for licensed advocates
  • We don't decide what an affidavit or declaration should say
Documents

Documents you'll need

  • The document to be certified, or its final draft if it will be signed before the notary
  • Your passport, and Emirates ID if you live in the UAE
  • Originals of any documents being copied, so the notary can compare them
  • Company documents: the trade license and evidence that the signer can act for the company
  • The receiving office's written requirements, if you have them

Notaries may ask for more depending on the document, and we confirm the list before your appointment.

Fees and timing

Two fees, shown separately

  • Government fees, paid at cost

The notary's fee is set by the rules that govern notaries, and fees abroad by the relevant office there; both are paid at cost. For MOFA, expect AED 150 per personal document or AED 2,000 per commercial document. Our service fee is quoted in writing before work starts and kept separate.

  • Global Sky PRO service fee

Quoted in writing before we start, so you know the full cost up front.

  • Timing

A UAE notary appointment is usually a single visit or session once the document is ready. Steps abroad and further attestation add time, which varies by country, so we set out the sequence before you start.

Details that save time

Lawyer attestation and notarisation: the difference

Notarisation is a formal act by a notary public, with a recorded identity check. Lawyer attestation is a broader everyday term that can mean notarisation, a certified copy from a solicitor or advocate in countries that allow it, or simply a lawyer's signature on a letter. What matters is what the receiving office accepts, and we check that before you book anything.

Where we stop and a lawyer starts

Some matters need legal judgement: what a contract or affidavit should say, whether a power of attorney gives the right powers, or how a document will be treated in court. For those, consult a licensed lawyer. Court representation in the UAE is reserved for licensed advocates. Once the content is settled, we can type, process and attest the document for you.

Ask on WhatsApp
What is lawyer attestation?

Lawyer attestation usually means having a document certified by a notary public, or in some countries a lawyer, before it goes through government attestation. The certification might confirm a copy, a signature or a sworn statement, and it is often the first link in a chain that ends with MOFA. We are not lawyers; we prepare the document and handle the steps around it.

Which documents need a lawyer's attestation?

Common examples are powers of attorney, affidavits and declarations, certified copies of passports or certificates for use abroad, and company resolutions signed by directors. Whether yours needs it depends on the document, the issuing country and the office receiving it. We check the receiving office's requirements and tell you which certification to get before you pay for anything.

Is it the same as notarisation?

Not always. Notarisation is a formal act by a notary public, with an identity check and an official record. Lawyer attestation is a looser term that may mean notarisation, a solicitor's certified copy where a country allows it, or a lawyer's signature on a letter. The receiving office decides which it accepts, and we confirm that with you first.

Can Global Sky PRO give legal advice on my document?

No. Global Sky PRO is not a law firm and does not give legal advice or represent anyone in court. We type documents on your instructions, prepare them for the notary and handle attestation and translation. If you need advice on what a document should say or how it will be used legally, please speak to a licensed lawyer.

Can any lawyer in Dubai notarise my documents?

No. Under Dubai's notary law, Law No. 4 of 2013 as amended by Law No. 26 of 2021, notary work in the emirate may be done only by government notaries, private notaries and government-entity employees registered on the roll kept by the courts, and the e-notary system. A private notary must, among other conditions, have practised a judicial or legal profession in the UAE for at least two years. Ask whoever certifies your document to confirm their registration.

Can DIFC Courts notarise an affidavit or declaration?

Yes. The DIFC Courts notary service has notary officers who administer and attest oaths, affidavits, affirmations and declarations, witness signatures and certify true copies. You open an account on its online portal, then attend in person at DIFC or complete the process by secure video. DIFC Courts notes that acceptance depends on the receiving authority, so we check that first and handle any UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) attestation and translation that follows.

What can a notary public attest in Dubai?

Under Dubai's notary law, a government notary can register documents and contracts, attest the signatures of the parties on them, validate their dates, register and attest affidavits after administering an oath, attest signatures on non-Muslim marriage contracts and attest wills made by non-Muslims. Private notaries on the courts' roll can be assigned any of these functions. Which one your document needs depends on the office receiving it, and we confirm that with you before you book.
