Family visa in the UAE

If you hold UAE residence, you can sponsor your spouse and children once you meet the salary rule. We check your eligibility, get every certificate ready and submit the file, while the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs Dubai (GDRFA Dubai) or the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security (ICP) decides.

Overview

How UAE family sponsorship works

A family visa is a residence visa for your relatives, sponsored by you rather than by an employer. As the sponsor, you apply for each family member, pay their fees and keep their residence and insurance valid. The main test is income: the UAE government portal lists the sponsor's minimum salary as AED 4,000 a month, or AED 3,000 a month plus accommodation.

Most applications cover a spouse and children. The portal lists unmarried daughters, sons up to an age limit and children with special needs, and parents can sometimes be sponsored under extra conditions. The authority applies these rules case by case, so we confirm them for your family before you start rather than rely on a general answer.

Most of the work is paperwork: proving your relationship to each person, proving your income and housing, and getting foreign certificates attested and, where needed, translated. That is where most delays happen, and it is where careful preparation saves you the most time.

Who it's for

Who you can sponsor

  • 01

    Your spouse

You need your marriage certificate, attested and translated into Arabic where the authority asks for it.

  • 02

    Your children

Unmarried daughters, sons up to an age limit and children with special needs can be sponsored, each with an attested birth certificate.

  • 03

    Your parents, in some cases

Parent sponsorship has extra conditions set by the authority. We check whether it is open to you before you prepare documents.

  • 04

Sponsors who meet the income rule

You hold UAE residence and earn at least AED 4,000 a month, or AED 3,000 a month with accommodation.

Our part

What we do, and what we don't

Clear boundaries, so you know exactly what you're paying for and who decides each step.

Included

  • Checking your salary, housing and residence status against the rules
  • Reviewing marriage and birth certificates for attestation and translation needs
  • Arranging attestation with the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) and legal translation
  • Typing and submitting entry permit or change-of-status applications
  • Booking medical tests and Emirates ID biometrics for each family member
  • Following up with GDRFA Dubai or ICP until residence is issued
  • Noting renewal dates so family visas don't lapse

Not included

  • Promising an outcome: GDRFA Dubai or ICP decides on every family member
  • Issuing certificates: those come from your home country's authorities
  • Underwriting health insurance: policies come from licensed insurers
  • Legal advice on custody, divorce or guardianship
  • Adding government fees to our fee: each one is shown on its own line
Documents

Documents you'll need

  • Your passport, residence visa and Emirates ID
  • Passport copies and recent photos for each family member
  • Attested marriage certificate, translated where required
  • Attested birth certificate for each child, translated where required
  • Salary certificate or employment contract showing your monthly income
  • Registered tenancy contract (Ejari in Dubai) or other proof of housing
  • Health insurance for each family member

Extra documents depend on your nationality, your visa type and who you are sponsoring; we send the exact list after a first check.

Fees and timing

Two fees, shown separately

  • Government fees, paid at cost

Each part is set by its authority and paid at cost: permit and residence fees by GDRFA Dubai or ICP, the medical fitness test by the Dubai Health Authority (DHA) in Dubai, Emirates ID by ICP, insurance by your insurer, and MOFA attestation at AED 150 per personal document. We confirm current amounts before you pay.

  • Global Sky PRO service fee

Quoted in writing before we start, so you know the full cost up front.

  • Timing

Timing depends on how ready your certificates are, whether your family is inside or outside the UAE, and appointment availability. Attesting foreign certificates can take the longest, so we start that first and give you a realistic estimate once we see your documents.

Process

How it works, step by step

Each step shows who does what, so you always know where things stand.

  • You
  • Global Sky PRO
  • Authority
  1. Step 1: Share your details

    You

Send your passport, visa, salary certificate and each family member's certificates. Clear scans or photos are enough for a first check.

  2. Step 2: Check eligibility and documents

    Global Sky PRO

We check your income against the salary rule and flag any certificate that needs attestation or translation before it can be used.

  3. Step 3: Attest, translate and apply

    Global Sky PRO

We arrange attestation and legal translation where needed, then type and submit the entry permit or change-of-status applications.

  4. Step 4: Entry permit or status change

    Authority

GDRFA Dubai or ICP reviews each application and issues the permit. You pay government fees at cost, and we track progress.

  5. Step 5: Medical test and biometrics

    You

Once your family is in the UAE, adult family members take the medical fitness test and each person gives Emirates ID biometrics at the appointment we book.

  6. Step 6: Residence issued

    Authority

The authority decides on residence and issues each Emirates ID. We confirm when everything is complete and note the renewal dates.

Details that save time

Family visa cost: the components, by authority

There is no single family visa price. The total depends on how many people you sponsor, where their certificates were issued and which steps each person needs. These are the parts to budget for, each set by its authority and paid at cost. Our service fee is quoted separately, in writing, before we start.

  • GDRFA Dubai or ICP: entry permit or change of status, and residence, for each family member
  • ICP: Emirates ID for each family member
  • DHA: medical fitness test for adult family members in Dubai
  • Your insurer: health insurance for each person you sponsor
  • Issuing country and UAE embassy: home-country attestation before MOFA
  • MOFA: AED 150 for each personal document it attests
  • A legal translator licensed by the Ministry of Justice (MOJ): Arabic translation where a document needs it

Getting your certificates ready

Foreign marriage and birth certificates follow an attestation chain: the foreign ministry of the country that issued them, then the UAE embassy in that country, then MOFA in the UAE. Certificates issued in the UAE go to the issuing body first and then to MOFA, and some UAE birth certificates already carry digital MOFA attestation.

The UAE is not a party to the Hague Apostille Convention, so an apostille on its own does not replace this chain. If a certificate is not in Arabic, the authority may also ask for a legal translation by a translator registered with the MOJ. Starting attestation early is the simplest way to keep the whole application on track.

Health insurance and other common causes of delay

In Dubai, sponsors must keep health insurance in place for their dependants and renew it every year. The DHA fine for not doing so is AED 500 per person per month, and it is deducted automatically when the visa is renewed. Put insurance renewal in your calendar next to the visa itself. Other common causes of delay:

  • A salary certificate that doesn't clearly show your monthly income
  • Housing evidence in another person's name, or a tenancy that isn't registered
  • Certificates attested at home but not yet by MOFA
  • Names spelt differently across passports and certificates
  • Family members leaving the UAE before medical and biometrics are done

Ask on WhatsApp
How much salary do I need for a family visa in Dubai?

You need a monthly salary of at least AED 4,000, or AED 3,000 if accommodation is also provided, according to the UAE government portal. Your salary certificate or employment contract is the main evidence. If your income is close to the line or paid in several parts, we check how it is likely to be assessed before you apply.

How much does a family visa cost?

There is no single price. You pay separate government fees to GDRFA Dubai or ICP for the permit and residence, plus Emirates ID, the medical test, health insurance and any attestation, such as AED 150 per personal document at MOFA. All are paid at cost, and our service fee is quoted separately before you start.

How do I apply for a family visa in the UAE?

Check you meet the salary rule, get your marriage and birth certificates attested, then apply for an entry permit or change of status for each family member. Once they are in the UAE, they complete the medical test and Emirates ID biometrics, and the authority issues residence. We can manage each step for you.

Which documents do I need for a family visa?

You need your passport, visa, Emirates ID, salary evidence and a tenancy contract or other proof of housing. For each family member, you need a passport copy, photo, health insurance and an attested relationship certificate, such as a marriage or birth certificate, translated where required. Extra documents depend on nationality and visa type.

Can I sponsor my family if I hold an investor visa or Golden Visa?

Yes. Family sponsorship is open to residents on other visa types, including company owners and Golden Visa holders, subject to the authority's conditions. Your income evidence may look different from a salary certificate, so we check what you can show before you apply and plan the applications together.

Do my certificates need attestation?

Yes. Foreign marriage and birth certificates normally need attestation in the issuing country, at the UAE embassy there and then at MOFA in the UAE. Because the UAE is not a party to the Apostille Convention, an apostille alone doesn't replace this. We can arrange the UAE side and tell you what to do at home.

Is there an age limit for sponsoring my children on a family visa?

Yes, for sons. GDRFA Dubai lets residents sponsor sons under 25 and unmarried daughters, and children with special needs can be sponsored regardless of age. Both male and female residents can sponsor a spouse and children, as long as they meet the salary rule of AED 4,000 a month, or AED 3,000 with accommodation, and can show suitable housing and proof of kinship. GDRFA Dubai or ICP decides each application.

What are GDRFA Dubai's fees and timing for a family residence permit?

GDRFA Dubai lists an expected completion time of 48 hours and, at the time of writing, a residence permit fee of AED 200 for each family member. Each permit also carries the Knowledge Dirham and Innovation Dirham at AED 10 apiece, AED 500 if you apply from inside the country and AED 20 delivery, plus AED 100 for every year beyond two. The medical test, Emirates ID, insurance and attestation are paid separately, at cost.

How do I get a residence visa for my newborn baby in the UAE?

Get your baby's birth certificate and passport, then apply for residence under your sponsorship. ICP states that a newborn's residence permit must be issued within 120 days of birth to avoid fines. It lists the birth certificate, a housing contract and proof of the sponsor's income among the documents, alongside a photo, passport copy and medical insurance. In Dubai, we prepare the application and submit it to GDRFA Dubai for you.

What happens to my family's visas if my own residence is cancelled?

Your family's residence permits are linked to yours, so the UAE government portal says cancelling your visa also requires cancelling your dependants' visas. Your family then has a grace period to get new residence or leave the UAE. Published periods differ between official pages, so we confirm the current one with GDRFA Dubai or ICP. A sponsor who fails to renew or cancel dependants' visas may also be fined.
